Kenya: Mudslides Kill Two in Mt Elgon

Two people have been killed and property worth thousands of shillings destroyed by mudslides in three Mount Elgon villages caused by heavy rain.

Councillors Job Kipnusu and Pius Muyei told reporters in Kitale yesterday that James Bwayo, a former bursar at ChweleSecondary School, died at Changeywa village, and Boaz Wanyonyi from Kutere village also lost his life.......................to read more click here.

Mt Elgon — Between 2006 and 2008, a self-styled militia, the Sabot Land Defence Forces (SLDF), carried out an insurgency to correct what its leaders said were injustices committed during a land distribution exercise which began in 1972 in Chebyuk, in the western Kenyan district of Mount Elgon.

Thereafter, he taught at the Department of History, University of Nairobi, for thirteen  years, being the director of the Institute of African Studies for seven years. A former chief of  Kinyoro Location, in Saboti constituency Henry Ndiema has announced that he will  quit his current job and join politics.   He will contest for the county representative seat of Kinyoro-Kisawai ward. He was the area chief from 1996-2002. Prior to joining the local administration he was an administration police officer based in Kitale. The former administrator who was redeployed back to his old job in 2002 and has risen through ranks in the Administration police to become a chief inspector, is currently the deputy chief security officer at the prime minister’s office. Henry who made history by becoming a chief at the age of  27.....................to read more click here.

Who are the Sabaots?

The Sabaot tribe is one of the nine sub-tribes of the Kenyan Kalenjin tribe. The other eight sub-tribes are:Sengwer, Tugen, Terik, Keiyo, Kipsigis, Pokot, Marakwet and Nandiwho live in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The Sabaots are the authentic Kalenjin sub-tribe commonly referred as "Kapkugo" by the other Kalenjin sub-tribes. The Sabaots is comprised of six sub-dialects namely: The Bok, somek, Mosopishok (Ogiek), Konjak (Kony), Bong'omek, and Sabinjak (Sebei)........ Click here to read more.
